On 22 June 1990, at 7:00 p.m. in Mežaparks, the Latvian exile trio “Trīs no Pārdaugavas” gave a concert that became one of the most visible moments of their visit to Latvia. During their 1990 summer tour the ensemble performed at nine open-air stages from 16 to 29 June, but the largest audience gathered specifically at the Mežaparks stage on 22 June: more than 25,000 listeners. For a group whose recordings had circulated unofficially in occupied Latvia, it was a symbolic homecoming.
“Trīs no Pārdaugavas” was one of the most popular Latvian exile musical groups, and its songs helped maintain links between Latvian communities separated by occupation. The 1990 concert tour in Latvia marked the moment when exile culture moved from secretly copied tapes into a mass public event.
